~~oh wowee, what a big surprise. I have found another completed blog post that I was too shy to post for some reason. This one is from June 2019 I think? Anyway, enjoy!~~
Okay. Guys.
I'm okay but I'm sort of not okay. In a very excited you are also about to be not okay about how cool this thing is. Here's why.
THIS SHOW- HOMIE I CAN'T. I LOVE IT SO MUCH AND YOU WILL TOO JUST WAIT JUST AHHHHHHH.
Okay, I am composed now. I am a writer; I can handle one blog post in which I sound like one. Maybe.
"Barry" is phenomenal. It takes a silly prompt, and crafts a compelling story for you to sink your teeth into. The story takes you through a lush path of twists and turns right next to its increasingly lovable protagonist, Barry.
This show asks you where you draw the line between redeemable and far gone. And boy, is it hard to find that line.
Barry is a hitman. And he hates it. He derives no joy from killing people, but as a former Marine, it's what he's good at. His mentor, an old family friend and partner in crime name Fuches, finds jobs for him. Then Barry finds his target, gets the job done, and repeats.
When we meet our main character, we can see through his behavior and demeanor that he is depressed and purposeless. A life that brings forth nothing but death. In many ways throughout the first season, Barry proves to have almost a childlike longing for discovery while tangled in a world of violence and mayhem. It is this feeling of un-belonging introduces us to a man that is ready to follow a dream - even if that dream is becoming an actor with no experience or knowledge about acting.
On an assignment, he stumbles into an acting class while following his target. He experiences being on a stage, getting to be creative with others, and hearing applause. That's all it takes for the dream to be born.
Barry is a daydreamer, and his imagination soaks up a lot more material with this newfound passion. He longs for simplicity, peace, happiness, and community (*cough cough* Community is a GIANT theme in this show that I will discuss further at a later date). Everything that gives Barry hope juxtaposes the life he has found himself imprisoned in, and leaving it behind proves to be both tricky and costly. This is Barry's journey.
Don't run away yet. If you're thinking, "That sounds sort of dumb," that's exactly what I thought at first.
But I really wanted to watch something with Bill Hader in it, nay something he created from scratch. I was very intrigued after the first episode. And after a few, this show blew my mind.
<<Directly quote Bill's recollection of pitching the idea>>>
"Holy hyphenation, how did you come across this amazing discovery??" you urge.

We will now take a short few stanzas to allow Tiffany to indulge in her fangirl tendencies. The semi-professional review will return shortly, I promise.
I had never seen Saturday Night Live before; thus, out of curiosity, I started watching some of their sketches on Youtube. Just for funnies. I've always gotten a lot of good laughs out of John Mulaney's stand up and interviews. Knowing he had been an esteemed writer and star for SNL, I gravitated toward his projects. He has such a charismatic personality.
SNL is a basket of amazing, hilarious, extremely talented actors. That's pretty much the whole point. I am the last person to discover this. What else is new? Anyway, one of these prodigies is named Bill Hader.
Y'all.
I- Dude. He is the bees knees.
I became a sudden huge fan of this actor in no more than 4 days.
Pop Quiz: Which of these things is true of SNL actor Bill Hader?
1. He has an elaborate vocal range and vocal abilities, allowing him to do a wide variety of accurate impressions.
2. He is creative as hell.
3. He is a charming and hilarious dude who currently holds my small little heart.
4. He is a better actor than you think he is.
5. HE HAS AN EMMY AWARD WINNING SHOW THAT HE STARS IN, WRITES, AND SOMETIMES DIRECTS.
Heh?? Heh???
ALL, baby, all are heckin true.
Check it out, Amazon Prime/HBO. Thank me later. Thanks for reading!
